Farensius is a simple menubar app for your Mac which will let you know what the weather is doing outside, should you be too busy to turn your head and steal an unproductive glance through the nearest window. You get a little icon showing you the type of weather you’ll find beyond the confines of your office, and a temperature in – yes – ˚F or ˚C.
That’s not all. Click the icon and you’ll get a dropdown with a five-day forecast. And for those of you who want the current conditions reflected in an ever-changing desktop background, there’s Farensius Desktop which doubles the price to $2 and puts the same familiar weaner symbols on your desktop, hidden behind your windows.
I’m fully converted to Celsius since I moved out of rainy England to sunny Spain, but I remember something that Daring Fireball’s John Gruber once said on a podcast: Fahrenheit is a temperature scale for humans. It might be as absurd as feet and inches (and eve worse, cups), but at least we know what “in the fifties” or “In the seventies” feels like. The tens of the Fahrenheit scale fit neatly into various human temperature zones. In Celsius, “in the twenties” can be anything from cool sweater weather to t-shirt and shorts weather.
Anyhow, Farensius is available now for a buck.
