Cracking your iPhone screen is one of the most annoying (and expensive) things you can do. Thankfully, the new LifeProof iPhone case offers the highest level of protection to make broken screens a thing of the past.

Tested to military specifications, the case protects against everyday hazards. It has a full IP-68 rating against water and offers fully-sealed protection against dust particles.

Shock and awe: The LifeProof case, although initially expensive, is a worthy investment

Boasting top-of-the-line shock and impact protection - the case is effective up to a 6.6ft drop on all surfaces. For those keen on underwater photography, the case allows you to take your phone up to depths of 2metres - and there is an optional Swimming Headphone Adapter which lets you use waterproof headphones under water.

The double AR-coated optical glass lenses provide unprecedented crystal-clear photo and video quality whatever the conditions.

Aesthetically, the LifeProof case will divide opinion, it's chunky, shock-absorbent material may look slightly too 'extreme sports' for some.

In its favour, the design only adds 1.5mm when measured from the centre of the phone. And cleverly, it improves the bass and mid-frequency speaker response by utilizing the back of the case as a sub-woofer for a richer, fuller sound.

At more than £50, the LifeProof case is rather dear. But compared to the much higher cost of a repairing a cracked screen or breaking your phone, it seems a good deal.

For those not keen on its looks, the case is easy to take off, for those more formal excursions.
