BlackBerry Set To Take Over iPhone Screens With 'Real-Time Marketing'

March 25, 2013
You know what they say: desperate times call for desperate measures. And this saying seems to apply to BlackBerry and its so-called "real-time marketing." With real-time marketing, BlackBerry is set to promote BlackBerry 10 by delivering advertising takeovers to U.S. customers on their computers and non-BlackBerry mobile devices. As explained by Forbes, these takeovers, which debuted in the U.K. in January, "fill your browser with ad that 'takes over' your display, in this case designed to resemble the Hub feature that helps users organize their content on the new BlackBerry 10 devices." Specifically, BlackBerry's advertising tactic is aimed at iPhone and Android smartphone users, who between them account for 85 percent of the market. Starting this week, non-BlackBerry mobile device users in the U.S. are likely to see their screens being taken over by ads made to look like a BlackBerry 10 display. These ads are designed to demonstrate some of the "edgy" features of the new mobile operating system, as if to prove that BlackBerry is not just for productivity nuts. Another tactic up BlackBerry's sleeve is a typing challenge that's scheduled to launch later this month. For its part, the challenge is designed to promote the BlackBerry 10 keyboard's superiority over your iPhone or Android device's keyboard with regard to typing speed and accuracy. Via: The Verge
