It's time for a trip back to the Stone Age, mobile gamers!

Finnish game maker Rovio, maker of Angry Birds, and DreamWorks Animation on Thursday launched an all-new mobile game based on the studio's upcoming animated movie The Croods. The free game, available on iOS and Android, introduces gamers to the Croods, a family of cavemen on a mission to break out of the Stone Age.

The game challenges players to trap and tame "10 crazy Croodaceous creatures" as well as create inventions to open and explore new areas, according to a blog post from Rovio. Players will also be able to decorate their pre-historic surroundings with the latest caveman accessories.

The Croods

"These cavemen are breaking out of the Stone Age with the use of a new revolutionary tool: the IDEA!" Rovio said. "The Croods will hunt and gather their way through spectacular new landscapes as they tame amazing new creatures."

The Croods movie, set to hit theatres in 3D on March 22, tells the story of "the world's first family road trip," according to DreamWorks. After their cave is destroyed, the Crood family, led by patriarch Grug, embarks on a wild adventure in search of a new home. During their tumultuous journey, the family encounters an "imaginative nomad" named Guy, who helps them conquer their fears and discover that they can survive the outside world.

This is not the first time Rovio has teamed up with a movie studio for a game version of an upcoming film. In March 2011, Angry Birds Rio debuted alongside the Twentieth Century Fox movie Rio. In November, Rovio also released a Star Wars version of its popular game. For more, check out 5 Angry Birds Movie Adaptations We Want to Play.

The Croods is available for download in the Apple App Store and Google Play.
