Playing much like a cuter version of Angry Birds, Toy Story: Smash It! is quite the charmer, even if it is a little easier than most other titles in the genre.

There's a loose story tying everything together but Toy Story: Smash It! focuses squarely on the action involved. Players control Buzz Lightyear as he attempts to knock down the various alien bandits that are invading many familiar Toy Story areas. This is done through throwing balls, balloons and missiles at them. It's simply done. The player can use directional arrows to move Buzz around the arena, while dragging displays a cursor which demonstrates where the projectile will go. Once a ball has been thrown, the player simply waits and watches, while the missile can be boosted in speed and strength by holding down a button, and the balloon can be inflated at a relevant moment.

It's simple to do and, excluding some silliness as I kept timing the balloon's inflation wrong, I didn't find it a great challenge to breeze through two thirds of the game's levels. What is more challenging is getting the full three stars from each stage and thereby unlocking the final group of levels. This takes a bit more thought with planning imperative. Many of the levels work like something out of a game of Mousetrap with a domino style effect reaction to things. It's fun to figure out what works best and some impressive explosions can be achieved. There's also the potential of collecting up a series of toy blocks which further boost the score.

There's plenty of reason to return to Toy Story: Smash It! regularly and while it's perhaps not the hardest of titles out there, it's a heck of a lot of fun. Much satisfaction can be gained from knocking out a glass pane which then leads to a ball rolling down a ramp and taking out a group of aliens on a train. It's as surreal as it sounds and captures the comedy of the Toy Story movies well.
