Google has started rolling out an update to Nexus 4 handsets that fixes some of the bugs in the last version of its Android smartphone operating system, following on the heels of the same update for its Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 devices.

Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 brings a number of minor changes to the platform, such as new notification sounds when you place it on a wireless charger but most of the changes are to improve the stability of the phone or certain features.

For example, some Nexus owners had reported problems with drop-outs when streaming audio over Bluetooth using A2DP, an issue Google acknowledged and promised to fix.

Google had not said when the gradual roll out began, but Nexus 4 owners keen to update their handsets can find the updated software online to sideload onto the device.

Some handset owners are also reporting that it fixes a random rebooting issue they had been experiencing with the previous version of the OS. Other minor tweaks include a longer vibration on notifications, new quick settings and a faster-loading gallery app.

According to Anandtech, the update also closes off access to 4G LTE functionality on band 4 that was possible to enable, but not officially supported.
