The iPad has helped saved trees thanks to the abundance of notebook apps that are available. There’s basically an app for everything from taking notes in class to organizing recipes. They each have their own features that make them unique, but users ultimately end up downloading a few of them to get the benefits from all their features. Why isn’t there an app that combines the best of all the notebook apps into one location? Well, now there is.

Stream of Consciousness lets users combine many different media forms into one location. Users may think that there are already apps out there that do this, but Stream adds another element of surprise: a 3D environment. Users are able to combine text, drawings and photos and organize them to unleash their inner creativity.

It’s essential to read through the tutorial before getting started. It’s a little lengthy, but it lets users instantly begin interacting with the app. Instead of having a drawing app to sketch out an idea and another word processing app to type out information, everything is unified into one location thanks to Stream.

There are three parts to creating a Stream document: scene, camera and assets. A scene is basically the collection of all the assets in the documents. These assets can be added and manipulated in many different ways. The Scene action bar is located at the bottom of the screen and contains all the necessary tools to begin creating. The Camera lets users view the scene. It can be zoomed in or out and basically is a way to navigate everything. Finally, Assets are the different types of media added to the scene like photos, texts and drawings. When an asset is selected, the action bar shows up which lets users manipulate them. There are many different customization features involved in each action, and not enough review space to go over them all.

This productivity app is confusing to use at first, since the tutorial has users moving the camera around to view everything. However, it’s nice that everything is detailed and laid out so that users can make creative masterpieces easily. Thanks to its diverse features, there are many different ways to use Stream such as scrap booking, collages, idea organization, and journaling.

There’s not much that Stream doesn’t have, except a way to add videos and audio. Everything seems well-organized and the app is quite powerful. The only issue that I noted is that it is quite pricey. It currently comes in at a $5.99 price tag. With it being so new, an introductory price may draw in more users.

Overall, Stream of Consciousness is quite possibly the only media notebook that anyone needs. Whether users need it for class or just want a way to doodle or jot down thoughts, it’s the perfect app for the job.
