Graebert of Germany is the co-creator of DraftSight from Dassault Systemes and is aggressively targeting big CAD leader Autodesk and others with its “Convert to DraftSight” program and consultancy work.

Graebert Offers Services to Convert Your Company

Graebert experts are now available to provide conversion services for new and existing DraftSight customers. The CAD platform conversion program goes to work for your company at just 250.USD per seat for the premium pack. Graebert experts analyze a customer’s entire 2D environment, manage the conversion of the CAD platform and any existing plugins or special functions and train the customer’s staff to become DraftSight power users.

Graebert will create new applications and plugins to help customers get the most out of DraftSight from technology uniquely tailored to specific applications and markets. Additional functions and tools can also be added to existing applications or plugins. Graebert will also provide developers with access to the DraftSight API and provide support services. The company is aiming to create opportunities for third-party developers to sell plugins to a large and growing DraftSight community of more than 3 million CAD users worldwide through an online app store in 2013.

“As the co-creator of DraftSight and its associated API, we are the preferred partner for companies who want to convert to this popular CAD platform,” said Wilfried Graebert, CEO of Graebert. “We are excited to share our expertise with CAD professionals as well as new DraftSight users…”

This announcement was made at SolidWorks World 2013 in January.

DraftSight is the first globally available, industrial grade professional 2D CAD system that simultaneously supports Windows, Mac and Linux and can be used on both the desktop and mobile devices.

Graebert’s product portfolio of CAD technologies include ARES Commander Edition, a powerful DWG-compatible software with 3D modeling capabilities and an OEM version of ARES Commander Edition which enables developers to create stand-alone CAD applications.

Architosh Analysis

Graebert’s core ARES Commander Edition on Mac has similar features to the Linux edition and doesn’t have some features on the Windows version like Visual Studio 2008 compatibility or ActiveX support–as those are Windows-specific Microsoft technologies. But beyond that, and some other minor missing tech, the Mac (and Linux) version are practically identical to the Windows version.

This is clearly an aggressive move by Graebert and Dassault and it will be interesting to see how the market reacts to this over the next few years. The interesting point in bringing up this news is really just the reminder to many in the Mac community that about the same time that Autodesk finally came back to the Mac officially with AutoCAD Graebert released ARES and through its OEM program the Mac community ended up with several other DWG-based options to Autodesk tools.
