SAN FRANCISCO, MACWORLD/iWORLD 2013 – Steve Jobs isn’t here at Macworld to kick off the show with one of his famous Stevenotes. But we got the next best thing – an shoddy actor who played Steve Jobs in a movie.
Ashton just opened Macworld with a Kutchernote, and unfortunately he didn’t come out in his full Steve garb, but he did give us some insight into what it was like to play Steve Jobs as well as his “geek credentials,” but more importantly, he said that Steve Jobs is his idol and that he tries to emulate him when he’s doing his angel investments.
To get into Steve Jobs’ psyche, Ashton said that he created a huge SoundCloud profile with Steve Jobs voice clips that he would listen to so he could mimic his speech patterns when he talked to people. Josh Gad, who played Steve Wozniak in the film, said that sometimes he felt he was in the same room with Steve Jobs because Ashton was so immersed in the role.
Ashton said that he’s been an Apple fan for a long time. His first computer was an Apple IIgs. Gad on the other hand confessed that he hadn’t even heard of Apple until his wife brought home an iPod, but he did take some programming classes to prepare for his role as Woz because “acting is faking, and if you don’t know what you’re talking about on screen you can’t be good at it.”
