Going to Macworld/iWorld? Come see Jacqui talk—twice

If you're an aficionado of Apple products or live in the Bay Area, you may be gearing up to see what comes out of the 2013 Macworld/iWorld expo. True, Apple no longer attends, but the activities (and festivities) have continued on with the help of third-party vendors, developers, and an enthusiastic community.

As usual, Ars will be in attendance in order to sweep the Macworld/iWorld show floor. But that's not the only reason we'll be there: I'll be giving a tech talk on Thursday, January 31 at 3:00pm PST, accessible by those who have purchased the "iFan Pass" level ticket.

The talk is called "Hardening Your iPhone from Stalkers: What EVERYONE Should Know," which is based on a feature I wrote here on Ars last year. The talk combines the information from that feature with another piece I wrote about preserving voicemail evidence from your iPhone, with plenty of other tips and advice on what to pay attention to on your iPhone if you find someone stalking you (or someone you love).

Don't think it could happen to you? The US Department of Justice says 3.4 million people are stalked in the US every year—and those are only the cases people knew enough about to report. That's more than four times the entire population of San Francisco being stalked every single year—think about that while 25 apps on your iPhone automatically poll your location info in the background.

But wait, there's more! On Friday, February 1 at 1:25pm on the Main Stage, I'll be participating in a panel to discuss "The State of Apple 2013." Other speakers on the panel include Macworld Senior Editor Dan Moren, Daring Fireball's John Gruber, gdgt cofounder Ryan Block, and Wired staff writer Christina Bonnington. The five of us will discuss "the state of Apple, the things that are driving the market, and issues of interest to all users of Apple technology. You'll receive interesting insights into the products and people that shape our world and join in the fun of pontificating what might be coming next in the world of Apple products."

You can check out the Macworld/iWorld schedule for further information, descriptions, times, and locations for these talks. If you stop by, feel free to give me a shout on Twitter or actually say hello (yes, in real life)—I would love to see you and say hi!
