PureShot Review

Camera apps aren’t going away anytime soon, especially since the iPhone’s camera only continues to get better but Apple's native camera app never really improves much. While the iPhone’s camera may not replace digital cameras yet, there are apps that help to make it better.

One such app is PureShot. Those looking for a fun filter app may be disappointed, but iPhoneographers who are in need of a way to take better pictures will greatly appreciate all its features. This app allows users to capture photographs with the “highest possible technical integrity,” according the App Store description.

Upon opening PureShot for the first time, I was impressed with the user interface. It’s simple and easy-to-use, but it also has many configurable features so that users are able to customize the app to suit their needs.

PureShot is comparable to 654 Pro in many ways like providing users the ability to save uncompressed JPG and TIFF versions of photos, but it also has its own unique features that make it stand out which include standard 4:3 or square 1:1 image ratio, real-time histogram options, night mode for extended shutter speeds, an optimized 6X digital zoom and multi-zone or positionable spot-metering, and much more. Perhaps the best feature is that it works with the iPad’s camera as well..

The main point is that this camera app performs great for those who wish to point and shoot, but it’s also ideal for professional photographers who enjoy having many features available at their fingertips. There’s really not much to complain about, although it appears that a few bugs may need worked out. It was a little glitchy on my iPhone 4S, but I’m sure a quick update will fix this.

Overall, PureShot is the perfect replacement for Apple’s native camera interface because it isn’t bloated and it provides users with the best possible unfiltered and unprocessed images. Since one can never really have too many photo apps, PureShot is definitely worth adding to the collection.
