Legos are the kind of toy that, unless you are stepping or choking on them (don’t ask…), are the epitome of joy and creativity.  The possibilities are endless when it comes to those magical little bricks.  Having already conquered the gaming sphere with the likes of Lego Star Wars and Lego Batman, the brand is trying to further test the limits of the intellectual property on iOS.  Can their most recent outing, Lego Legends of Chima: Speedorz continue the trend, or is this the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back?

Though it may be a bit difficult to discern from the name, Legends of Chima: Speedorz is actually a racing game of sorts. The ties to the Lego brand seem to be due to the characters featured being from one of their various product lines. Beyond that, most of the game boils down to collecting as many coins and boosts as possible, all the while steering the on-screen avatar to victory lane.

It is hard to deny that the Lego influence is everywhere.  Aside from a couple of environmental items, virtually everything is constructed of the plastic blocks.  Even the coins that players must collect in races will be familiar to those that have spent hours tracking them down in other Lego properties. The true key to success in any race is to hit as many of the power-up obstacles as possible, which in turn entitle players to speed boosts.  Ultimately, effectively timing boosts and collecting coins en-route will land racers in the winner’s circle more often than not.

As far as the free-to-play aspects of the game go, there are no limitations to play whatsoever. That said, the amount of content available in game is rather lacking right now. The developers have already promised periodic updates, which will at least add in several new tracks, so fret not.

While it probably won’t have as significant an impact as the previously released Lego properties, Legends of Chima: Speedorz certainly has the potential to be a family friendly time sink for those looking for a lighthearted racer.  Plus, when factoring in the additional content coming down the road, there is no reason not to give this free romp a try.
