Yahoo really seized an opportunity by giving its Flickr iOS app a much-needed love in last week’s major version 2.0 update, didn’t it? I mean, the app couldn’t have arrived at a better time just as Facebook has suffered a major PR blow due to the public outcry concerning Instagram’s new terms of service. Seven days later, Yahoo brings us a new Flickr update. Based on customer feedback, Flickr version 2.01.772 is now available for download, sporting several interesting new features missing in the previous release…

So, what’s new in this release?

For starters, you can now find your Twitter contacts on Flickr and get alerts when a Facebook friend joins Yahoo’s photo sharing service. The app will also notify you when your Flickr contacts comment on a photo after yourself.

The program now puts up the standard iOS 6 Sharing Sheet when sharing your Flickr photos on Mark Zuckerberg’s social network.

An issue with Google sign-ins and other bugs have been fixed as well.

Here’s your changelog:

– better visibility of photo upload status
– it’s now easier than ever to share your Flickr photos on Facebook
– get instant notifications when your Facebook friends join Flickr
– easily find your Twitter contacts on Flickr
– new notifications when someone comments on a photo you’ve also commented on
– fixed issues with Google sign-in
– plus other bug fixes

If you haven’t yet tried the new Flickr app, it won’t cost you a dime. Trust me when I say it’s nothing like the old, clunky app you probably hated with passion.

It’s a welcome sign that Yahoo under its new CEO Marissa Mayer is finally beginning to take mobile seriously.

Earlier this month, they released a brand new Yahoo Mail client for the iPhone which not only looks business, but also enables efficient gesture-based navigation and advanced features like auto-complete for email addresses you type, notifications for incoming email messages, in-line images, search across folders and more.

Have you tried the new Flickr app yet?
