You Don’t Know Jack originally came out as a series of computer trivia games. It was available on the App Store last year for a while, but it was later pulled by the developers to give it a new life. Instead of a single-player mode, the game now includes new episodes, a cross-platform experience as well as Facebook integration for asynchronous gameplay.

What makes You Don’t Know Jack so much fun to play is the humor and dialogue thrown into each episode. The main objective is to try to outscore the other players who have played the episode by answering five trivia questions as quickly as possible, which include popular categories like Jack Attack and Dis or Dat.

YDKJ comes complete with fake sponsors and commercials that gamers can unlock and there are special in-game achievements to earn. However, the lack of Game Center support is a little disappointing.

Further disappointment arises as gamers learn that there are strings attached. Although YDKJ is completely free to download, there are in-app purchases. Gamers play new episodes by earning tokens or purchasing them. Tokens are earned when gamers perform well and they also unlock more episodes and let players buy score boosting power-ups (which greatly lower the competitive nature of the game).

When there are no tokens left, players are stuck with only one game per day. This wouldn’t be so bad if the games were longer like the previous ones in the series, but instead of 21 or 10 questions, gamers only get to answer five per episode.

Unlike other social games, it is quite possible to earn plenty of coins if players are sharp. Each episode only costs 200 coins, and I was able to play through a few before I hit a pay wall. Additionally, the off-the-wall questions combined with the well polished graphics and engaging gameplay make You Don’t Know Jack worth exploring. Whether gamers are big fans of the series or trivia buffs, it’s a hilarious freemium game packed with enough content to satisfy most players, just don’t expect it to be as great or as long as previous versions.
