Amazon Releases Instant Video App for iPhone, iPod Touch

Amazon on Thursday released its Instant Video viewing app for the iPhone and iPod touch. The free app lets Amazon Prime Instant Video members stream from Amazon's library of Prime content to their iPhone or iPod touch at no additional cost. Amazon Prime is free for a month, and $79 a year after the trial period.
Those with or without a Prime membersip, however, can also use the new app to access videos they have purchased or rented from the Amazon Instant Video store, which includes more than 140,000 titles. Once a user has downloaded and signed into the app, all the videos they have purchased or rented with Amazon Instant Video will show up on their device, and be available for viewing even without an Internet connection.
To purchase new content, however, iPhone and iPod touch users will need to access Amazon's Instant Video store using the Safari Web browser on their device. Once a video is purchased or rented, it will show up on the app "in seconds," Amazon said. The app also lets users make a list of all the movie and TV episodes they want to watch in the future.
More than 30,000 movies and TV episodes are now available for streaming on Prime, Amazon said. The Web giant this year added new movies and TV shows to the service thanks to agreements with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Paramount Pictures, and Viacom.
"Our customers tell us they want the convenience of being able to watch all of their movies and TV episodes, wherever they are," Anthony Bay, Amazon.com vice president for video, said in a statement. "Today we're excited to extend our 'buy once, enjoy everywhere' approach to iPhone and iPod touch users, giving customers the chance to enjoy more than 140,000 titles from Amazon Instant Video and more than 30,000 titles from Prime Instant Video anytime, anywhere."
The app is available for donwnload now in the App Store.
Meanwhile, Amazon on Thursday also launched its Cloud Player on 2012 Samsung Smart TVs and Roku streaming players, letting users access, browse, search, and play tracks from their music library through their home entertainment devices. Amazon Cloud Player is also available on Kindle Fire, Mac, PC, Sonos, Android, and iOS devices.
Those with a 2012 Samsung Smart TV can install the free app via Samsung's Smart Hub. Roku users, meanwhile, can download the Amazon Cloud Player channel from the Featured or Music categories in the Roku Channel Store.
