Would You Pay More For A 'Made In The U.S.A.' Mac?

This article is more than 10 years old.

It seems that Apple is planning to shift production of some of its Mac lines to the U.S. Would you pay more for a Mac that had "Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in United States." on the back?

Yesterday, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced the plan in an interview that was broadcast on "Rock Center" on NBC. According to him, the move will cost Apple $100 million.

This move sparks a few questions in my head.

  • First, is there a real demand out there for products "Made in the U.S.A."?
  • Is this a PR move or a real desire on Apple's part to bring jobs back to the U.S.?
  • If "Made in the U.S.A." products ended up being more expensive than those made abroad, would people be willing to pay extra?

Thoughts?
