Hands on with the new thin 2012 iMac

Look directly at the new iMac, and you can’t tell the difference from the previous model. In this picture, the older 21.5-inch iMac is to the left, and the new 21.5-inch iMac is to the right.

Macworld Lab has two new iMacs; both are “ultimate” configurations with build-to-order options for faster processors, more memory, and Fusion Drives. We have a complete set of benchmark results.

The new iMacs are now available for purchase.

The differences are noticeable when you aren’t sitting directly in front of the two iMacs. In this picture, the older 21.5-inch iMac is to the left, and the new 21.5-inch iMac is to the right.

In this picture, the older 21.5-inch iMac is to the left, and the new 21.5-inch iMac is to the right. The thinnest edge of the new iMac is 5 mm.

Press a notch in the outer recess of the power input, and you can pop open the RAM panel.

A carriage of RAM slots lowers down from the iMac, so users can install RAM.
