AT&T Now Extending Free FaceTime Over Cellular To All iPhone Customers

November 21, 2012
It seems AT&T is gradually rolling out free "FaceTime over cellular" to all iPhone customers. A couple of weeks ago, we heard that the carrier would enable the feature for tiered data customers using an LTE iDevice under iOS 6. Back then, it seemed that folks on an unlimited data plan, or those who owned an older iDevice, wouldn't be auto-enrolled for free. However, it now seems that FaceTime over cellular is launching both for AT&T's unlimited data plan customers, and also for those using previous-gen iDevices (such as an iPhone 4S). As MacRumors notes, one forum member has confirmed the news:
In a recent thread we were discussing AT&T members getting facetime with LTE devices and tiered plans. However I noticed today that I have facetime over cellular and I have an unlimited plan on my 5. I just turned off my other phone, a 4S and turned it back on, only to find the switch flipped to ON for facetime over cellular. Both phones work perfectly over cellular. I also checked a few coworkers phones, all now have FT over cellular.
Numerous other AT&T customers have confirmed the news. If you have an AT&T-powered iDevice that supports FaceTime, look out for the above changes. Even if you're on an unlimited data plan rocking a non-LTE iDevice, it seems you too will be auto-enrolled into free FaceTime over cellular. Just watch those data charges if you're on a tiered plan!
