The Room is a mystery box puzzler that’s not only beautiful to look it, but the spine-tingling game play makes it too immersive to put down.

The Room sent chills up my spine. Never have I played a game that was so mysteriously creepy yet so engaging that I couldn’t put it down. I felt like I was actually there inside the game trying to figure out the mysterious puzzles. This is a box inside of a box style puzzler that’s not only beautiful to look at, but it’s also compelling to play.

The game starts out with a safe that players must examine. The goal is to solve different magician style puzzle boxes. The game is completely interactive and it encourages gamers to explore every nook and cranny. There’s keys to be discovered, secret messages to be found and riddles to be solved.

Players must use their brain power and a little bit of trial and error to solve each of the four chapters. The controls are smooth and work great for this style of game. Pinch and double tap to zoom, swipe with your finger to move around and tap on objects to explore them.

Some puzzles are hard to wrap your brain around at first, while others are easy yet clever. The Room offers a three step hint system to help players who may get stuck on one element. The difficulty of the entire game is what I loved about it the most. It’s not frustrating, but it’s not exactly a piece of cake either. It requires some patience to get through, but it’s worth it in the end.

It’s difficult to describe the game play in too much detail without giving away spoilers. You’ll want to check it out for yourself if it sounds remotely interesting. While I wish the game was longer (it took me about 4 hours to complete), the gorgeous graphics, relaxing sound track and perplexing puzzles made it worth its purchase price.

The Room is a mind-bending puzzler that anyone can pick-up-and-play. The visuals are breath-taking and the game play is truly well-designed. Besides the fact it felt a little short, there wasn’t anything that I disliked about it. If you love a good mystery and games that make you feel clever, I highly recommend buying The Room today. It’s an Apple Editor’s Choice game this week as well.
