Epic Adventures: La Jangada is the latest Hidden Object game from G5 Entertainment. It's not one of their best, though.

Epic Adventures: La Jangada is a fairly flawed Hidden Object title and I say that as a big fan of the genre. Arguably, the biggest flaw is also the first one that players will notice: there's only one game mode to play through, or at least, I think there is. A glance at the game description on the App Store confuses this matter as it clearly states two modes. As someone who just wrapped up the game last night, I can't see any sign of any extra mode, something that is usually quite common with games within this genre.

Still, if that one mode is great, then what does it matter? Unfortunately, Epic Adventures: La Jangada is a little on the short side and lacks some much needed fun. Players spend their time trying to solve a dark family mystery, namely that the main character's father was accused of murder. It's not the most exciting of stories, mostly because it feels so detached from the action, being resigned to separate cutscenes of sorts, rather than being fully integrated into the puzzles.

The puzzles themselves are a hit and miss affair. Some are quite fun, involving solving anagrams and piecing together jigsaws. Some are stubbornly obtuse and make less sense than they should. Scattered amongst such puzzles are the Hidden Object scenes. At first, these show some promise, providing different sorts of objectives than the conventional way. This doesn't last long though with more predictable scenes emerging. Worst of all is that some items are just too well hidden, making it more a matter of randomly tapping around the screen to track them down. No score is kept, or punishment for tapping randomly so there's little challenge to these scenes.

The early stages of Epic Adventures: La Jangada might seem promising but all too quickly, it falls back into run of the mill ways. Only taking a couple of hours to complete further reminds players that there are better Hidden Object games out there.
