Dare devils: Klash is an iOS app for setting your friends challenges

Dare devils: Klash is an iOS app for setting your friends challenges

You’ve seen Jackass, right? That bonkers MTV show involving a bunch of crazy folk performing ridiculous stunts?

Well, we’ve encountered an interesting little app that could help you and your friends set similar challenges for yourselves – though they don’t necessarily have to entail quite as crazy stunts as you’ve seen on Jackass.

Klash is the handiwork of an international team (Turkey, Austria, Germany, Italy and Argentina) of five people, based in Berlin. It’s already available as a Web app, but today it rolled out its first native mobile app for iOS, that seeks to merge fun with dares. How does it do this? By letting you and your friends set challenges and prove it with pictures and videos.

As with the Web app, you need to use your Facebook credentials to enable the app – it is all about your friends, after all. Though it would’ve been nice to have Twitter as an option too, for those averse to opening up their private social networking world.

Your challenges can be as trivial or titillating as your imagination permits – it could be to sink five espressos in one go, run naked through your neighborhood, stop smoking, climb Mount Everest…you name it. Klash is selling itself as the platform to facilitate these shenanigans.

How it works

Tapping your Facebook profile, you pick a friend you want to set a challenge for then get a little creative when defining your Klash. Oh, and you’ll want to set a reward too, if your friend takes you up on your challenge. Moreover, you can get your other friends to support and root for either side, post comments and more.

Once you enter the app, one of the first things you’ll see are the recent ‘Klashes’. Just click on one of the them to enter the Klash stream. Here you’ll see the details – even if you’re not taking part in any way, and you’ll still be able to support your favorites by clicking on the thumb button, and comment.

To launch a new Klash, click on the + button at the top right of the app, at which point you’ll need to choose between two Klashes – a duel, where you want to challenge a single friend to either do something or to guess a certain future outcome. And then there’s a Skirmish, which is for when more than one person is involved.

“It´s all about having more fun in life,” explains co-founder Alex Napetschnig. “People have this competitive instinct inside of them but most of all they like to share their achievements or competitive spirit with others.”

It seems that the company’s founders live and die by this philosophy too – one of there other co-founders, Alessandro Petrucciani, pitched the concept to Jason Calacanis earlier this year, wearing nothing but a mankini. But don’t take my word for it – see the video for yourself below, with Calacanis calling it “the perfect pitch.”

The app is available to download from the App Store now.
