'Guild Wars 2' Is Coming To Mac

Guild Wars 2 is coming to Mac according to ArenaNet.

On the heels of extremely strong sales and critical acclaim, ArenaNet has announced that it's new MMORPG, Guild Wars 2, is coming to Apple users everywhere.

In a surprise twist, the Mac beta for Guild Wars 2 will take place on the game's live servers, allowing both Mac and Windows users to play together on the same servers.

Teaming with TransGaming, the makers of Cider, ArenaNet has said that the game's future updates will take place across both platforms simultaneously, making the experience as seamless as possible between both platforms.

People have described Guild Wars 2 as a possible World of Warcraft killer, and while I think the two games are different enough to make this a non-issue, bringing the game to Mac is almost certainly a shot fired across the bow at Blizzard.

Guild Wars 2 is a one-time purchase, meaning that unlike World of Warcraft, players can buy the game and never spend another penny on monthly fees. While there is a cash shop, it's entirely optional, and no portion of the game is restricted to a paywall.

The Mac beta is still being optimized according to ArenaNet, but anyone who has already purchased the game for Windows will have access to the Apple beta.

No hard date set on when that will begin, but it's good news for Apple MMORPG fans, and a smart move by ArenaNet.

I've had plenty of critical things to say about the game, but it's still one of the better MMORPGs on the market, and with no monthly subscription is easily one of the best deals in the online gaming space.
