The next step in networking

Looking for an easy way to connect with networking contacts that can help your career?

Intro uses your LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter accounts to identify people you need to meet.

Just sign in through LinkedIn and add your other social networks, and Intro will show you connection overlaps with your contacts’ contacts — for example, you both know the same person or went to the same university.

You can also tell Intro what industry you’re working in, your job and the what type of contact you’re looking for. And you can be alerted when a contact is nearby.

The app then creates a personalized, ranked list of the most relevant business matches around you, showing you each person’s name, photo, job title, how close they are to you distance-wise and the number of connections you share.

If you see someone in this list who you want to connect with, you can “reach out” or accept someone else’s invitation to connect. Once a request has been accepted, both parties can e-mail one another.

Intro can also be used to match freelancers to projects they have the right skills for, and by small-business owners to find the best people for their projects. The app works best in big cities and at large conferences and events, Intro claims.

The app is free for Android-based phones and the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Versions for BlackBerry and Windows Phone are in the works.
