iPhone Feature Comparison

The following data has been compiled from a number of sources, including Apple (links within table), Wikipedia, EveryiPhone, and GSM Arena.

The iPhone was specifically a GSM device until Apple released a separate CDMA version of the iPhone 4 on Feb. 10, 2011. the iPhone 4S comes in a single version that supports both GSM and CDMA. Except for the original iPhone, which uses cell towers and WiFi transmitters to geolocate, all iPhones use Assisted GPS (A-GPS), which uses cell towers and WiFi in addition to GPS to improve startup performance.

  1. Separate GSM and CDMA versions of iPhone 4/
  2. GSM version, CDMA version runs iOS 4.2.6 and later.
  3. Because Apple runs CPUs below their rated speed to improve battery life and reduce heat, the speed listed is the actual operating speed, not the rated speed.
  4. iPhone 4 and 4S only support 802.11n on 2.4 GHz band and have no support for 5.0 GHz band.
  5. There are three different versions of the iPhone 5 - one GSM model for the North American market, one CDMA model for CDMA carriers in the US and Japan, and another GSM model for European, Asian, and Australian markets.
