A slight oversight but one which means Apple's web developers are probably now sweating bullets, ahead of Apple's event, a simple search on the firm's website confirms the name of the new product.

apple iphone 5 confirmed product launch search

Searching "iPhone 5" or "iPhone-5" on the website returns page results -- although are broken at the time of writing -- that will no doubt be live in several hours. Once Apple's San Franscisco product launch is complete, the link to the tech giant's future press release is likely to become available.

In addition, a new iPod Touch with retina display and an iPod nano appears to be on the cards.

The iPhone is the most valuable product in Apple's portfolio, with over 35 million of the smartphones sold in the first quarter of this year alone.

As always, anticipating surrounding Apple's product launch remains high -- and a number of rumors have included new features for the iPhone model. Whispers have included a screen larger than the iPhone 4S -- which would make the handset taller and up 3.5 inches from the latest design.

As ZDNet's Jason O'Grady writes, the current iPhone 4 and 4S screen is 960 x 640 pixels, but the general consensus is that the new model might bump this up to a resolution of 1136 x 640. However, it is also possible that the new screen will be extended on the short side from 640 to 720 in order to display "true HD" content with less need for scaling.

In addition, the new iPhone is expected to support 4G LTE, good news for UK consumers who have recently been given access to 4G network services.

Apple's event is due to start at 10 a.m. PT.
