Everpurse Offers On-the-Go iPhone Charging

A Chicago entrepreneur has built an on-the-go iPhone charging option that has already gained Kickstarter popularity.

One Chicago entrepreneur is hoping your iPhone battery depletion rate is just as frustrating for you as it is for her.

Elizabeth Day Ormesher Salcedo has created a way to ditch the usual charging cables and plugs, and instead stay fashionable while rebuilding your phone's battery life, with the Everpurse.

The small clutch or sleeve (it comes in two styles) turns phone charging into an afterthought – just drop your phone into the special charging pocket inside the purse, and wait for your battery to replenish while you are riding the train or in a work meeting.

At the end of the day, the Everpurse simply rests on the charging mat for wireless charging.

"Trust us, we know how powerful this product is," creator Salcedo wrote on her Kickstarter project page. That includes a full day of Web surfing, Facebooking, Instagramming, gaming, and calling, with hours remaining on your ever-charging phone.

"We have become addicted to it. We are no longer scared of running out of battery," the creator said. "No longer scared to lose another phone call, another set of directions, another awesome Instagram picture or another Facebook comment."

For now, the charger works only with the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. A final phone lineup will be announced through Kickstarter, the creator told The Next Web.

The purse, an effort to keep function fashionable, comes in three colors in leather or cloth. Available for pre-purchase through Kickstarter (with no guarantee that the project will come to fruition), the simpler cloth option plus one charging mat costs a pledge of $99, with an estimated March 2013 delivery date.

The leather Everpurse option, at a price tag of $119, is sold out. The purses retail for $175 and $230, respectively.

With her prototyping-enthusiast husband, Salcedo began building the Everpurse more than a year ago, just for fun.

"It began as a quest to make the perfect purse," she said. "One that would let me go through the whole day without ever thinking about charging my phone."

Salcedo doesn't want the word "purse" to turn anyone away from the product, though. The black version is great for men – "just toss it in a gym bag [or] backpack," she suggested.

Everpurse is now patent-pending and ready to manufacture. In just two days, the project gained a huge following; as of press time, 227 backers had pledged $30,013 toward the $100,000 goal. The project has 32 days left in its Kickstarter lifespan.
