MetroView GPS app delivers TomTom traffic data

By

Mapping company Geobyte has deepened its relationship with TomTom by licensing TomTom HD Traffic information for use in its MetroView iPhone navigation app for Australia.

TomTom HD Traffic combines traffic data from a variety of sources, including connected navigation devices, mobile phones, road sensors and real time incident data, to give what TomTom officials claim is the most accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date traffic information.

This information can be used by navigation devices and apps to make routing decisions that can save time and fuel.

"At Geobyte, we believe that by offering TomTom's high quality traffic information we are further enriching the navigation experience of our users, especially as traffic congestion is expected to worsen in the region," said Babak Vahebzadeh, managing director of Geobyte.

"TomTom is excited to extend our partnership with Geobyte, bringing our innovation in real-time traffic to users of the MetroView app," said Nuno Campos, vice president of sales and marketing for TomTom licensing.

"Our services will ensure that drivers will have the most up-to-date traffic information whenever they are on the road."

The MetroView GPS Navigation app costs $14.99.

An annual live traffic information subscription is available as a $19.99 in-app purchase.
