Moonrise Kingdom writer Roman Coppola has teamed up with Intel to launch a screenplay competition for short films that showcase the life of a "global jet-setter".

Aspiring filmmakers are invited to enter the Four Stories competition from now until August 30 and submit their original screenplays at intel.com/fourstories.

The competition is calling for scripts that are "inspired by the highly mobile, 24/7 nature of travel". Three winning ideas will be developed and transformed by Coppola and the Directors Bureau organisation into 10-minute short films, each with a "talented cast".

Proposed scripts must evoke the intense energy of the global jet-setter and be set at a WH Hotel, which is a partner in the project.

Judging the competition will be a panel of experts, including Coppola (Moonrise Kingdom, The Darjeeling Limited), actress Chloe Sevigny, Intel chief marketing officer Deborah Conrad, VICE creative director Eddy Moretti, screenwriter Jeff Baena, actors PJ Ransone and Michael Pitt, William Morris agent Danny Gabai and Blake Whitman, the vice president of creative development at online video network Vimeo.

The fourth film in the Four Stories project will be written and directed by Coppola himself.

"To all those people thinking of participating, I hope that they take this opportunity to be bold, to push boundaries and to think of ideas which are totally unique to themselves," said Coppola.

"As Thomas Edison said: 'Hell, there are no rules here - we're trying to accomplish something'."

Four Stories will premier at select WH Hotels around the world in the autumn, and be broadcast on the Intel website.

It is part of Intel's Ultrabook Experience, a new initiative to promote that firm's Ultrabook devices that involves partnering with emerging and established artists, designers and entertainers. Throughout 2012, the experience will unveil a series of "grand-scale projects", said Intel.

"Today, we are in the midst of an evolution of the arts through the power of every day technology," said Johan Jervoe, vice president partner marketing, Intel.

"A new generation of artists can bring film, music, design and art to life more easily because they no longer have to compromise.

"They can have one device, the Ultrabook, with both performance and portability, so they can readily share their creations at the touch of a keyboard button."

Coppola is currently in post-production on his second feature as a director, A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III, a comedy starring Bill Murray, Charlie Sheen and Jason Schwartzman.
