Telenav's iOS app received an update Tuesday, bringing iPhone users offline navigation at all times.

Dubbed Always There Navigation, Scout's GPS service works any time, regardless of whether or not the user has wireless or cellular coverage.

"When you are driving in an unfamiliar area, the last thing you want to worry about is losing your GPS navigation if you drive out of wireless coverage and take a wrong turn," Scout product manager Ryan Drake said in a statement.

Telenav's offline navigation was first launched last year as part of the AT&T Navigator iPhone app, Drake said. The popular feature has now been rolled into the Scout app.

The Scout app is currently available for free download in Apple's App Store, and requires iOS 4.0 or later.

Offline navigation comes with an additional fee of $9.99 per year, or $2.99 per month, and includes premium features. New customers can try the option for free during Telenav's 30-day trial. The speech recognition feature is available to all users as part of the Scout app update.

Always There Navigation is available for download based on U.S. region – western, central, or eastern. Users can download a different region at any time, if GPS navigation is needed while traveling.

Scout also added free speech recognition, providing hands-free searches while driving.

Users can activate the feature with the touch of one button, then can provide voice commands like "find Starbucks" or "drive home," initiating the app's nearby results, plus route summaries based on traffic and the user's current location.
