Chicken Raid is a hilarious physics-puzzler with impressive retina graphics, but the game play may seem a little too familiar to most players.

Chicken Raid
, based off the Chicken House flash game, is another flash port developed by FDG Entertainment—the same developers that brought titles like Clear Vision and Tentacle Wars to iOS. The hilarious game is fun for the whole family, but it really doesn't stand out enough to keep players interested for long.

In Chicken Raid, players are on a mission to kill the pesky chickens that have taken over all the property. The game play has a certain familiarity to it as the graphics looks similar in style to Angry Birds. Instead of slinging birds into annoying green pigs, the goal is to break the objects like glass blocks and wood piles to create a chain reaction.

The controls are simple: tap on wood to chop it or tap on the glass to break it. Yellow chickens die when they fall or something smashes them, red chickens can only be killed by hitting them on the head and blue chickens can only be killed when falling from any height. Players must also take out the chicken eggs in every level and smash treasure chests along the way to collect coins.

The coins are used to purchase power-ups to help players beat tough levels. Those who have a hard time earning enough coins can purchase them as IAPs, but it’s not necessary to beat the game. The power-ups include meteor, air strike and nuke bomb, which are all stored in the gamer’s arsenal.

Chicken Raid uses the familiar three star rating. While the game seems simple on the surface, earning three stars can be quite challenging. Players earn a basic score within the game along with a tap bonus based on how many taps it takes to beat the level. Tapping too much can result in a point deduction which ultimately means less earned stars.

Although Chicken Raid is addicting, it isn’t without faults. The game play gets repetitive rather quickly. I had a lot of fun playing it in the beginning, but after the first 20 levels, I was ready to stop playing. Players can beat the game within an hour, and only those who are concerned about achievements and earning all three stars will find the replay value to be high. What’s even more disappointing is that the HD version will cost players $2.99 as there isn’t a universal version.

Although it’s not original, Chicken Raid still is a worthwhile game to check it for those who are big fans of casual physics puzzlers. The graphics are well-polished and the game play is solid. Along with unlocking all the stages to beat the 96 levels packed into this game, the perk of unlocking comics is a nice addition. At less than a dollar for the iPhone version, it’s perfect for children and casual gamers alike.
