WatchDox Updates iOS Application to Enhance Secure, Mobile Collaboration

New features provide users with key functions to securely collaborate on any document, at any time, from any iOS device

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--()--WatchDox, a provider of secure access and collaboration solutions, today announced new features for its iOS application. Updates include more document access and sharing options, expanded annotation tools and an enhanced interface, allowing users to leverage iPads and iPhones to perform intuitive document collaboration on the go while providing their enterprise IT departments visibility into and control over their organization’s data.

iOS dominates the workplace, and more employees and executives are looking to their iPhones and iPads to conduct mission-critical business. In a recent survey, Gartner found that almost 60 percent of enterprises plan to standardize on Apple's iOS by April 2013. Additionally, the number of users performing business functions via their personal iOS devices continues to rise as enterprises adopt bring-your-own-device (BYOD) initiatives.

“With iOS dominant in the enterprise, our customers’ users expect to effortlessly upload, collaborate and share directly from their iOS devices, while their IT departments need to maintain control over corporate data, even as it ends up on iPads and iPhones that IT might not want to manage,” said Ryan Kalember, chief product officer at WatchDox. “When enterprise users open their WatchDox app, they see their own synced documents, workspaces for documents they’re working on with colleagues and third parties, and even files they’ve sent or received in WatchDox-protected emails. This gives them greater usability than a consumer file sync app, and reduces security risks from shadow IT like Dropbox and Box.”

In this mobile environment, the WatchDox platform allows enterprise administrators to control the lifecycle of any document. The iOS app enables enterprise IT to prevent recipients from forwarding, downloading and printing and revoke access to a document at any time. Enterprise users are already leveraging the WatchDox iOS application to perform a number of mission-critical tasks, such as protecting financial results and intellectual property, sending product designs directly to supply chain partners and factory floors overseas and enabling company directors to view and annotate board documents on their iPads.

Updates to the WatchDox iOS application include:

  • The Open in WatchDox feature: Users have the ability to open any document on iOS with WatchDox. An email attachment, like a PowerPoint document or Excel spreadsheet, that does not display well in the native iOS email client can be uploaded to WatchDox where it will be rendered in pixel-perfect fidelity. Additionally, users can annotate uploaded documents with comments, highlights and drawings before securely sharing with specified recipients, and send that document with WatchDox Exchange or upload it to a workspace. Optional email notification that the document has been uploaded is also available.
  • On-demand workspace creation: When a new file is uploaded to WatchDox through Open in WatchDox, a user with proper credentials can create a new workspace or folder on the fly.
  • Free drawing annotations: In addition to the highlight pen and sticky notes for commenting, users can now freely draw annotations in a document. The free drawing pen can be configured to use different fonts and colors. This update also expands the color options for sticky notes to include yellow, blue, green and red, which can be applied to a document to color code annotations.
