Wizorb is a new genre-bending title that blends the classic breakout style game with an RPG, and is downright wonderful.

As a child whose range of gaming was from the simplest of breakout style games to the most difficult of RPGs I wouldn't have believed that the two could be meshed together so easily. I was wrong.

Wizorb, brought to its basics, is a complex "brick breaking" game, but in fact is very far from "basic". The concept of Wizorb is a mix of Breakout and an RPG. The wand is the paddle that the titular Wizorb is propelled from. To complete levels in the game all of the bricks on screen must be destroyed using the Wizorb. Along the way there are monsters, items, and even shops that must be dealt with accordingly.

Where the game really shines is in the RPG elements. From equip-able abilities to purchasable one time power-ups, there is always a way to change the field of play. To go along with this, the game also allows the players to progress the game through a central town. This town has been destroyed by the enemies in the game and it is up to he player to gather resources to rebuild. As the player progresses through the story, the town becomes more and more useful for different things.

This would all go along swimmingly aside from one thing. The controls present in Wizorb are simply not where they need to be for a game of such precision. Controlling the wand often feels sluggish and not near tight enough. Controlling the character while in town feels like a downright chore and is way tougher than it needs to be for simple tasks such as talking to an NPC.

Although the game suffers from loose controls, the actual gameplay is quite refreshing and fun. If the player can get passed the loose controls, there is a wonderful game with great fun to be had.
