Path App Updates: What's Bigger? What's Better? What's More?

This article is more than 10 years old.

Path 1.0 introduced us to personal network on mobile. Path 2.0 then transformed private sharing with family / close friends and public sharing on social networks into a wonderfully Apple-esque elegant experience. The popularity of Path 2.0 has accentuated the imperativeness of visually pleasing, humanly sensible apps' interfaces.

The latest Path 2.5 polishes up rough edges and make features better. As the result, the Path experience now is incrementally better. Here are three notable upgrades I love about the 2.5:

BIGGER is Better

Photos / videos are now 30% larger. Larger media on updates stream is definitely more visually appealing (see Instagram). The amount of white space is reduced but without making the stream looks overcrowded. From version 1.0 to version 2.0, the width of media file is reduced to make room for avatar to appear on the left-side of each photo/video. Now, avatar hovers on top-left corner of the photo/video (nifty!). I think many Path users will appreciate this little upgrade.

Much BETTER camera

Apple camera uses slider to toggle between photo and video modes. The new two buttons camera on Path - one for camera, the other for video - is surprisingly more sensible. The new camera can captures square or landscape format pictures, depending on the orientation of your iPhone.

New Path comes with better new set of tools to enhance your photo. Crop your photo into square format. New Glo tool can "enhance details in dark or bright photos."

Share MORE lifestyle activities

In addition to music, users can now share what movies they're watching and books they're currently reading using the new Path. Tap on the movie or book cover image and you can read its synopsis. Path uses iBookstore service to search and display books on the app. For movie, the app uses Rotten Tomatoes.

In a nutshell, 2.5 is nifty. And Path is already setting a high bar for version 3.0.
