AT&T this week continued its 4G LTE rollout, firing up its ultra-fast network in parts of Florida and Massachusetts, and expanding coverage in several other areas.

AT&T turned on its 4G LTE network in Miami, West Palm Beach, and Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The carrier also launched coverage in Worcester, Mass. and a number of surrounding communities, including  parts of nearby Auburn, Boylston, Grafton, Holden, Leicester, Millbury, Oxford, Northborough, North Oxford, Paxton, Shrewsbury, Westborough, and West Boylston.

The expansion means that AT&T's 4G LTE network now covers 51 markets.

In addition, AT&T this week expanded its 4G LTE network coverage throughout Boston and the greater Baltimore and Washington, D.C. areas. The carrier had originally launched its network in these markets at the end of last year.

In Boston, AT&T expanded coverage to communities in the MetroWest, North Shore and South Shore areas. Coverage now includes communities in Bristol, Essex, Middlesex, Norfolk, and Plymouth counties.

In the Baltimore area, the expansion covered Baltimore and Anne Arundel counties. The greater Washington, D.C. expansion, meanwhile, included Montgomery and Prince George's counties as well as Northern Virginia.

AT&T said it expects its LTE deployment to be "largely complete" by the end of next year.

Rival carrier Verizon is leading the 4G LTE charge in the U.S., with plans to extend its super-fast network to 400 markets by the end of the year. Meanwhile, Sprint last month fired up its 4G LTE in a handful of markets and T-Mobile expects to upgrade to 4G LTE in 2013.

Global from 9 million last year to more than 560 million in 2016, according to a new report from Parks Associates.
