It's a promising sign when a recipe app makes you hungry, even though you've just eaten. The imagery within Food Network In the Kitchen does exactly that. Even meals that I wouldn't normally eat looked rather tasty. With thousands of recipes included, users should be guaranteed to find something ideal for them.

The app offers a clear interface that lends itself to kitchen side use, whether you're using it with an iPhone or iPad. Clearly labelled chef names and pictures are one thing, but the ability to enlarge the text for ingredients and recipe instructions is even more useful.

It's possible to browse recipes either via the chef name or by searching for something in particular. For instance, I'm trying to track down the perfect enchilada recipe and Food Network In the Kitchen offered plenty of choices. A varied selection of food types are available, covering numerous different cuisines as well as purposes. Each comes with a clear photograph, ingredient list then similarly clear instructions. Other users can include a rating out of five and description of how following the recipe worked out for them.

A search facility makes it easy to look for certain ingredients or course type, but users are always a swipe away from Grilling Central or the Collections tab. Grilling Central is focused on the summer love of barbeque and offers some tantalizing options. Collections makes it easy to look according to need such as according to cuisine or if the meal is child friendly.

Many of the recipes are focused on using a mixture of fresh ingredients and ready made products which might prove offputting to those who'd rather cook entirely from scratch. It does prove handy for novice cooks though.

Other useful sideline features include a shopping list facility and the ability to add notes to recipes, or organize them via the Recipe Box feature that's also available on the Food Network website. There's also a convenient yet simple unit converter.

Much like with cookery books, it's fun to collect as many cookery apps as possible. I should know, with an ever growing list of food based apps to inspire me. Food Network In the Kitchen slots in there perfectly, offering a vast number of recipes for every occasion.
