Fur Fighters: Viggo On Glass Review

It's a small reminder of how far technology has come when it's possible to play a Dreamcast or PS2 game on an iPad. We've seen it before with the likes of Max Payne and Grand Theft Auto III, the latest to add to this list is Fur Fighters: Viggo on Glass.

Fur Fighters is a game that started out life on the Sega Dreamcast, meaning that while it had plenty of critical praise, not as many gamers played it. Fur Fighters: Viggo on Glass brings the concept to the masses, providing a great remake of a fantastic game, even though its control system could do with a little work.

Using some tropes that were particularly popular back in the day, Fur Fighters: Viggo on Glass involves cuddly looking animals in 3D as they run around shooting and jumping across platforms. The graphics are pretty chunky looking and, even on the iPad, look rather dated, but there's an underlying charm that will appeal to many, particularly those who played games around the N64 era.

Players take control of a squad of animal freedom fighters, each with their own skillsets, in order to rescue their families. While Roofus can dig holes, Bungalow can jump large distances and Rico can swim underwater. It's all aimed at puzzle solving as well as the action side of things.

Each level offers a large expansive setting to explore and solve such puzzles, with plenty of focus on shooting enemies as well as exploration. There's a good solid dash of humor here, also, which helps endear players all the more. It's all quite well laid out, although the camera angles are still a problem, just like they were with the original.

Similar problems emerge with the control system, with the common problem of a virtual d-pad struggling to replace a physical controller. It's worth pursuing though as, much like other conversions, the more you play, the more acceptable it becomes. There's a huge amount to explore within Fur Fighters: Viggo on Glass, with 30 levels in all. There's no multiplayer here, as was the case with the original, but that's a small sacrifice for such an appealing game.
