Satechi’s 4-Port USB Hub Looks Expensive, Isn’t

If you own a Mac, it is almost a given that you will also need a USB hub. They come in all sizes and prices, but the one I am looking at today, the Premium 4 Port Hub from Satechi has some nice features and an excellent price.

Satechi Premium USB 2.0 4-Port Hub

The hub is made from aluminum and designed to work with any Mac that contains an Intel Processor. It includes a 9.5-in cable. It presents with four USB 2.0 ports. Each port provides 5 volts and 250 to 500 mA depending on the computer’s USB output.  The MSRP is US$27.99 and it is available from the Satechi web site

The Premium 4-Port Hub finish is brushed aluminum, and it’s a perfect match for the aluminum Mac products. It measures approximately 3.5 by 1.5-in and sits flat on a desk or table top. It is strictly plug-and-play and can be moved from machine to machine. No software or installation process is required. The design is reminiscent of the Apple Magic Trackpad, but there is no battery compartment or battery required to operate the hub.

Using the product

I took the Premium 4-Port Hub and plugged it into one of the two USB ports on a 15-in MacBook Pro, plugged the printer and a speaker into the hub and everything was set up and ready to go. Should I need to, I could easily put this product in my pocket or computer bag to take it to an off site location.

Do I recommend it?

I do. I like the price. I really like the look and size of this hub, and I like the fact that it sits flat on my desktop. And, for the snob in me, it looks more expensive than it is.
