AirFoto lets users view photos wirelessly from their computer to any iOS device, but the app lacks some important features to make it worth its price tag.

AirFoto is a wireless photo frame that lets users browse all the images on their computer directly on an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Instead of syncing images to an iOS device, the app makes it easy for users to view them without taking up valuable storage space. It’s an ingenious idea that many users will love, but there are a few issues to consider before clicking on that purchase button.

Before users can access their photos, they must download and install the AirFoto Server on their computer. Multiple computers can be accessed, so feel free to download the server on all the computers in your home if you desire. I recommend downloading the server first to make sure there aren’t any complications before purchasing the app. Once the server is launched, users then must wait for it to finish scanning the computer for pictures, and then they are free to add a shared folder once the search is finished.

The AirFoto Server must remain open on the computer while users open the AirFoto app. If all goes well, the app will show the shared photos, which can be displayed either in portrait or landscape mode. There are a few options for users to select such as image auto-rotation and image optimization, but that’s where the customization stops.

It’s nice to be able to view the photos from anywhere, but I wouldn’t go as far as to call it a wireless photo frame. There’s no option to keep the iOS device from sleeping without going into the Settings option on the home screen, and it doesn’t display a slideshow of images. Also, there’s no way to send pictures to a social network or email account. Perhaps the biggest disappointments are that the the device and computer must be on the same network for users to access photos (I couldn't get it to work over 4G) and there is no Mac support.

AirFoto does as promised and that is to display photos from the computer onto all iOS devices, but it lacks many features that users want out of a $2.99 app. If you only need to view all computer photos on our device without syncing them, then this is the perfect app to have on hand. However, if you’re looking to get something more out of this app other than that, then I’d steer clear of it for now until more features are added in the future.
