Last summer GeekMom Sarah told you about the summer camps at Apple retail stores across the country, and they are back again this year for children ages 8-12. The free workshops run an hour and a half sessions for three days, and campers will learn the basics of GarageBand and iMovie to make their own film masterpieces. Campers are asked to bring their own Macs, digital cameras, and earphones to create their movies.

On the first day of the Apple Camp, there's a one-hour free seminar for parents to teach them how to set up parental controls on the Mac. Check out the Apple Camps page for more information on registering.

If you're a PC, some Microsoft Stores in various locations are also offering summer camps. Check out the page for your local store to see if it's participating in the camp programs, like the ones offered at Bellevue Square. This is the first year for Microsoft Store camps, and they are also free for kids ages 8-13. A variety of topics are offered, including movie-making, graphic design and photography, using Microsoft Office, and creating and producing video games.

Get your kids out of the heat and into some cool computer camps this summer -- but register soon, as the spots are filling up quickly.
