Are you in the market for a new game console? Well, a new Sony PlayStation 3 model with an even slimmer body may be on tap.

According to Eurogamer, documents filed with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) suggest that Sony is planning to update its six-year-old console with a new "Super Slim" PS3 model. The remodeled console will reportedly fall under the new 4000 series, and have a model number of CECH-4001x. Current PS3s belong to the 3000 series.

Details about the rumored console are sparse, besides a rough diagram (above) showing an outline of the device and the FCC label position. But gamers might not have to wait too much longer to find out more. The CECH-4001x model may be released as early as next month at the German game show Gamescom, Eurogamer's sources said.

Sony rebranded the PlayStation 3 back in August 2009 with the release of the more affordable at Gamescom, which was 32 percent slimmer, 36 percent lighter and consumed 34 percent less power than its predecessor.

Sony did not immediately respond when contacted about the rumored PS3 Super Slim.

The Japanese tech giant is also rumored to be launching the PlayStation 4 late next year. Releasing a slimmer, cheaper PS3 model in the meantime may take advantage of late adopters, Eurogamer noted.
