Microsoft's effort to "reimagine" Windows with version 8 has been fundamental, whether you're talking about interaction methods, visual design, or pricing strategy, but one aspect of the new OS looks to have actually been inspired by its past: the logo. The two-dimensional Metro-style Windows flag that was introduced in February (and will feature on both Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8) is closest in appearance to Microsoft's original Windows logo.
