This morning I got an e-mail from the Le Robert developers indicating that an official fix for the problem with the black fields was finally available.

As an added gesture, they indicated that the fix included the very latest version the Grand Robert application, presumably with a few more entries and updates compared to the one available on the CD-ROM that I purchased a few years ago. They are hoping that this will compensate for the inconvenience.

I am pleased to report that the fix does work and the fields now have the correct white background again.

Now, if you’ve followed the discussion about the Grand Robert application on this blog lately, you know that, while discussing hacks to work around the problem with the black fields, I also mentioned another hack which turns off the idiotic behaviour in the search field, where double-clicking in a word causes the Grand Robert application to try and look the word up in the dictionary, when all you want to do is select the word to delete/replace it.

If you install this new version of the Grand Robert application with the fix for the black field, you’ll lose the hack, so you will need to reapply it after installing the application. (Go to the original post for detailed instructions.)

Thanks to the Le Robert developers for finally releasing the fix and offering a more recent version of the application at the same time. I would still say that they have a lot of work to do in the communications department, but at least there is finally a fix for everyone that does not involve hacking the application.
