Tim Cook Confirms That The Mac Pro Will Get A Big Refresh 'Later Next Year'

Apple isn't usually one to pre-announce updates for a product, but the company just made an exception for the Mac Pro.

After some customers complained that Apple had completely ignored the high-end desktop at its Worldwide Developers Conference, Tim Cook decided to confirm that big changes are coming to the product in 2013.

"Although we didn't have a chance to talk about a new Mac Pro at today's event, don't worry as we're working on something really great for later next year," Tim Cook wrote in response to an e-mail Tuesday from one frustrated customer, which was later posted to a Facebook group dedicated to pushing for a new Mac Pro.

Apple later confirmed to MacWorld that this statement was in fact from Tim Cook.

This followed a statement given the previous by an anonymous Apple executive to the New York Times noting that both the Mac Pro and the iMac would get a redesign next year. (No more details yet on the fate of the iMac.)

Here's Cook's full email, via MacWorld:

Franz,

Thanks for your email. Our Pro customers like you are really important to us. Although we didn’t have a chance to talk about a new Mac Pro at today’s event, don’t worry as we’re working on something really great for later next year. We also updated the current model today.

We’ve been continuing to update Final Cut Pro X with revolutionary pro features like industry leading multi-cam support and we just updated Aperture with incredible new image adjustment features.

We also announced a MacBook Pro with a Retina Display that is a great solution for many pros.
