US mobile operator Verizon has today released details of the shared data plans it first announced earlier this year
The new Share Everything plans will be available from 28 June, and will offer unlimited voice minutes, unlimited text, video and picture messaging and a single data allowance for up to ten devices on Verizon’s network. You’ll also be able to use your devices as a “mi-fi” WiFi hotspot at no extra charge.
The new plans will see customers paying a monthly fee for line access for each device, and then a monthly tiered account access fee that starts at $50 per month for 1GB of data per month, up to $100 for 10GB.
Verizon will be offering the new plans on new contracts, and existing customers can switch over without paying a fee or extending their contract.
While the operator is trumpeting this as a first (and it clearly has a certain simplicity about it, which may appeal to some), there’s no doubting that the amount of data on offer won’t go far if you’re a heavy user. However, there should be nothing to stop you using one Share Everything plan across your whole family. Indeed, rival network AT&T has also declared its intent to offer a similar deal aimed at multiple users.
Whether you see it as a fair deal or not, Verizon’s latest offering is still a far cry from the unlimited data days.
