At first, it seemed like Temple Run and the games it inspired were as simplified and streamlined as they could possibly be. However, Open The Doors manages to take that formula and boil it down to the point where it is just interactive enough to call itself a game. Make no mistake though. Just because it is as basic as basic can be it is still a ton of fun.

In Open The Doors players control a young thief looking to steal various treasures in various locations that all happen to be haunted. When the ghosts start chasing, it's up to the player to clear the way. All this really involves though is swiping either up or down, depending on the hinges, to open a series of doors. Occasionally there is a ghost to vanquish, poison gas cloud to clear or turn to make. However, the vast majority of the game really is just swiping up or down to open doors at the proper time through good but not especially fast touch controls.

It is an undeniably addictive hook, though, despite how slight it is, and the game surrounding it is well-polished. The graphics and sounds have a dark, storybook feel to them and the multiple worlds, like the haunted house and the pyramids, keep the visuals varied. There are plenty of stages across those multiple worlds too which is good considering how short stages are. There is also an infinity mode for players to unlock. During runs players gain keys whenever they defeat the different ghosts and those keys are used to buy upgrades like shields and speed shoes. The game is not lacking in content and it promises that more features like online multiplayer and extra worlds are on the way.

It may seem like a dumb complaint, especially for an iOS game, but Open The Doors might be a little too simple for its own good. As far as time-wasters go though, its level of quality is admirably high. Check this one out with tempered expectations.
