Why Do You Need A New Computer Instead Of An iPad?

Yesterday we wrote about the big risk Microsoft is taking with its new Windows 8 operating system.

In a nutshell: The new Windows is getting bad reviews, and there's a good chance it will be a dud that consumers skip. Unlike the last time Microsoft had a dud with Vista, today Apple is a much more viable rival.

We posited that some people might just buy an iPad instead of a new computer. They could use their old computer for heavy duty tasks and the iPad for the rest of it like surfing the web, email, watching video, etc.

In the course of writing that, I put this question on Twitter: What do people use home computers for mostly? Anything that an iPad can't do? Since I got the new iPad, my MacBook Air is mostly collecting dust.

Since Business Insider is a bigger audience, I thought I'd ask the same question here.

If you have an iPad, do you use your laptop at home? If so, for what? Do you think the iPad is good enough to replace a laptop? If you were (or are) thinking about replacing your computer would you pick an iPad?
