Apple To Make The iPhone Less Annoying

This article is more than 10 years old.

One of the problems with the iPhone and iPad is that the more apps you load onto the device, the more apps you have clamoring for your attention, firing off notifications all the time. In the iOS 6 update, it is rumored that Apple will add a kill-switch for notifications to allow you to get some peace.

According to 9to5Mac, the new update to iOS will feature a single 'Do Not Disturb' switch to allow you to globally switch off notifications without having to tinker with each one separately.

9to5Mac offers up the following mockup of the 'Do Not Disturb' switch:

This feature has already made its way into the OS X Mountain Lion beta, so it's plausible that Apple would add this feature to iOS.

I like the sound of this feature, and personally I'd like to see Apple take it further by allowing me to set a time period within which I don't receive any notifications, or only ones that I have specifically allowed. For those of us who use out iPhones or iPads as alarm clocks, this would allow us to have an undisturbed night's sleep without having to flip the device into airplane mode or disable notifications.

iOS 6 is currently scheduled for release this fall.
