Apple is finally going to introduce deeper integration between Facebook and other apps with iOS 6 in the same way it currently does with Twitter, according to two recent reports.
AllThingsD's Kara Swisher reports hearing that Facebook executives expect the announcement to come at Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference this month. In fact, the executives hope this announcement provides Facebook with some much needed positive press in the wake of the IPO disaster.
"Sources said execs there hope that a successful [patent] settlement with Yahoo — as well as an expected announcement of an integration with Apple’s iOS at the Worldwide Developers Conference in mid-June — will return the focus to forward momentum by Facebook," Swisher reports.
Similarly, MG Siegler reported hearing on Friday that Apple and Facebook had finally partnered on the deeper integration and would unveil it at WWDC this month. However, he noted that things could change between now and then.
"It's important to note that Apple being Apple, something could change in the next week and a half," he wrote. "But as of now, Facebook is a go in iOS 'Sundance.'"
It certainly seems unlikely that the deal would fall through now though. The AllThingsD article suggests that Facebook is desperate to see this partnership happen to help shift attention away from its IPO. At the same time, Apple's CEO has already dropped strong hints that Facebook integration is coming, so it would be surprising to see Apple back out at this point.
