Jurassic Park: The Game Episode 4 Review

Unlike many of Telltale Games's previous series, Jurassic Park has been a bit of a mixed bag of success. It might have kept fans, such as myself, returning for more but even they have to admit it hasn't been the greatest use of the license or one of Telltale Games's best works. So, we limp to the end with Episode 4: The Survivors. Much like the three previous episodes, Episode 4 is nearly something special but mostly residing in average. At least there's some finality to things.

Picking up where Episode 3 left off, it's all turned pretty nasty for the survivors of the park. Despite this, everyone's pretty chatty and quite happy to talk for a while before moving onto the next sequence of dinosaurs out to rip them apart. It's all a little too planned out. It'd be tough to make Jurassic Park seem random but it would have been nice if there had been some attempt at doing so. Instead, everything feels quite nicely compartmentalized. A little too nicely compartmentalized.

Such storytelling elements are broken up with quick time events, akin to Heavy Rain and the rest of the series, requiring players to swipe across the screen at the exact right moment to progress. As seen before, there's a fair amount of trial and error here but fortunately, not much is affected by failure. Failing just means a restart of that sequence and the loss of a fairly inconsequential gold medal.

There are some minor puzzles to be seen here, as well as some decisions to be made, but none of it feels enough, not even when a particularly famous huge dinosaur rears its ugly head. The storyline and characters within just aren't as gripping as the subject matter would have anyone think. Unfortunate given the potential for some really challenging choices within. iPad 2 performance issues further compound problems and lead for an all round disappointing experience.
