It's come to light that Tim Cook has been meeting in private with senior leaders in Congress from both parties. CNN reports that Cook met with members of Congress last Tuesday, in order to start "opening up a line of communication" between them and Apple which has been missing in the past.
During the day of meetings, Cook met with House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).
Apple has normally shied away from any kind of political lobbying, at least while it was under the control of Steve Jobs. But CNN suggests that Cook's leaderships will see the company become more involved with policy matters—which will no doubt see some of its massive pot of cash being thrown the way of lawmakers.
Skeptics, of course, might suggest that Apple could do with being a little closer to Congress. In recent times it's come under some level of government scrutiny—first for iOS privacy issues and then ebook price-fixing—and no doubt a more intimate relationship might help things play out more smoothly.
